Support our work

From fundraising to volunteering, there are many opportunities to get involved.

About us

Amma Birth Companions is a Glasgow charity supporting women and birthing people through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. We ensure that everyone, regardless of background, receives dignified, compassionate, and person-centred care.

We provide birth and postnatal companionship, peer support, antenatal education, and advocacy — all rooted in a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach. Our work is powered by a dedicated team of nearly 20 staff and over 100 volunteers.

To date, we’ve supported over 700 families who often face overlapping challenges: racism, language barriers, insecure housing, poverty, and isolation. For many, Amma is their first and only consistent source of care during the perinatal period — like family.

Beyond direct support, we also advocate for systemic change, working with NHS Scotland, policymakers, and partners to tackle the structural inequalities that create barriers to safe, equitable maternity care.
