Do you enjoy spending time with young children and families? Are you looking for a rewarding way to give back to your community? As an Amma Family Volunteer, you’ll be a welcoming presence at our weekly family events — holding babies, playing with children, and helping parents feel supported, loved and connected.
This is a wonderful opportunity for those who have time to share, love being around children, and want to make a real difference in the lives of families facing challenges.
About the role
Outside of our one-to-one companionship support, Amma runs weekly events for parents and children, including our Amma Family peer support activities and pregnancy group. As an Amma Family Supporter, you’ll provide helping hands to make sure these regular events run smoothly.
You might:
- Be a welcoming face at the front door
- Pitch in with food preparation and distribution
- Hold babies and play with older children so parents can relax, chat, and learn
- Help set up and clean up before and after groups
- Encourage new or shy participants to join in and make new friends

Training dates: Wednesday 16th September from 10am-4pm and Monday 21st September from 12pm-4pm in our city centre office

- Have flexible schedules - Commit to at least 1 Wednesday session every 6 weeks. o just one event per month (4 hours). You will be able to sign up for Wednesday sessions that fit your schedule via WhatsApp
- Prefer minimal but thorough training - Just 2 days of in-person training and a small amount of self-paced online training to get started
- Are social and active - A dynamic role in a busy, bustling environment with families, workshops, gardening, group outings, outdoor activities and community meals
- Are Glasgow-based - Most events at Amma's Glasgow city centre office, plus occasional outings around Glasgow

Who can apply?
Our volunteers come from all walks and stages of life — that’s what makes the team so great!
We especially welcome those with time and life experience to share.
We ask that Amma Family Volunteers:
- Can speak English to a fair standard
- Live within or can easily commute to the Amma office in Glasgow city centre
- Are punctual and reliable
- Can attend 2 days of induction training (Next training dates: Wednesday 16th September from 10am-4pm and Monday 21st September from 12pm-4pm in our city centre office)
- Work and communicate well within a team
- Are compassionate and committed to anti-racism and inclusion
- Are comfortable around people who may have extensive trauma histories (please consider your own wellbeing if currently healing from trauma)
- Agree to a PVG check (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) (no cost to you
We especially encourage multilingual volunteers and those with lived experience of migration to apply!
We are inclusive of all women (cis and trans). We welcome non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming people who share or have shared lived experiences of women’s issues and are comfortable in a space that centres women.
What is the time commitment?
Just one Wednesday session every 6 weeks minimum (from 11am-3pm), scheduled to fit your availability. This is one of Amma’s most flexible volunteer roles — perfect for those who want to contribute meaningfully without a large time commitment.

This is a very flexible role. Amma Family Group Support Volunteers join a WhatsApp group where volunteer opportunities are posted regularly. If you have time in your schedule, you sign up. We ask that you commit to supporting one event every 6 weeks minimum.

Amma Family Group
Every Wednesday, 11:00 am-3:00 pm
A parent and baby group offering a safe, inclusive space to build supportive networks. Includes workshops and activities. Mostly meets at the Amma office, with occasional trips around Glasgow.
Outings
Ad hoc group outings in family-friendly settings around Glasgow, helping parents explore the city and build connections.

Our training promotes discussion and connection, leaving volunteers feeling supported and excited to start.
Will this cost me money?
No. We never want our volunteers to be out of pocket!
We cover:

How accessible is the role?
We’re committed to supporting volunteers with disabilities. Our team offers personalised assistance, and our training accommodates different learning needs.
Please note: Volunteering in this role can present sensory challenges, including loud noise, crowded spaces, odours, visual stimuli, and variable lighting and room temperature. Groups can be busy and bustling environments.
