Hatred has no place here: A message to our community

Amma stands with our community in the face of racist violence

This week, racist violence and intimidation have spread across the UK, including here in Glasgow.

We are sickened by what is happening in our city.

The people responsible are a small minority who do not speak for Glasgow or for Scotland. This is a country where people of all backgrounds live side by side, and where most people believe that individuals and families seeking safety deserve to be welcomed.

Hatred like this is designed to divide us. It wants neighbours to fear each other and communities to turn inwards. We can’t let that happen.

To the women and families in our Amma community: we stand with you. Amma will always be a safe and welcoming place where you and your family belong. You are not alone.

And remember, silence isn’t neutral. If you aren’t directly affected by these events, speak up when you can and check in on your neighbours and colleagues who may be feeling unsafe. Challenge racism when you witness it. Be an ally in real life, not just online.

Together, we can send a message that hatred has no place here in Glasgow or across the UK.
